Richard spent most of his early years in Kenya where he grew up on a coffee farm, trying to avoid rhinos while out exploring on his bicycle. This early close relationship with the wilderness would blossom into his career in wildlife film-making. Starting with a job in the Corporate Communications industry in South Africa, Richard proceeded to climb up the ladder (and fall off a couple of times), picking up valuable experience in all aspects of film and video production. Here he became a respected Grip before turning to camerawork and following his lifelong passion for wildlife.

Richard Jones is a versatile documentary cameraman who has largely concentrated on high-end Natural History. Working on award-winning programmes throughout Africa and the Middle East for the BBC, Discovery, National Geographic, PBS and NHK, Richard has filmed on nearly every format available from Imax (65mm), 35mm, 16mm film and Digital Beta, SP, DV Cam to the latest High Definition Video on both 1080 and 720 formats.

Richard is used to spending long hours patiently waiting to get that cracking never before filmed shot. He thrives on being out there alone with the animals, the landscape, and a camera, but fits in equally well with a crew.

Richard sees himself as a long-lens cameraman filming more large mammals than anything else. He also films all those other fascinating creatures out there in the wilds and has been known to turn his lens to those most awkward of beings - Homo Sapiens.

In addition to his work in natural history, Richard has filmed for documentaries and inserts on a range of environmental and social issues. He has also spent many hours perched on the back of motorbikes, or dangling out of helicopters, filming major adventure sports and world-class athletes in their training.

Having spent nearly all his life in Africa he has a vast knowledge of the African Bush and the logistics of working in it, and with an extraordinary sense of direction he can claim to have never lost himself...yet!
